Someone who managing a business within hospitality industry should be aware this wall notice. I found it at hotel in West Kutai, a forest-rich district 12 hours by land vehicle from Samarinda, East Kaliamantan. Hmm..that’s far enough to attract foreign visitors? I’m not sure. If the hospitality industry have established in the district, I think I wouldn’t find this wall notice. It’s too bad to read by the visitors. If I’m the owner of the hotel, I’d like to put it off. Change it with tropical-forest wallpaper is better.

Last week I just visited the city before back to Jakarta. It was told by my colleagues about the discount rate for a new and popular hotel, Swiss-Bell. A frequent flier must be familiar with this hotel which exists in many cities in Asia, Middle-East and other regions. Sure, it’s a hotel managed with international corporation.

A huge billboard is easy to find at the arrival terminal of Sepinggan airport. The billboard promotes the Swiss-Bell hotel group that just opened in January 2012. And it says a discounted rate through February. Okay, that’s interesting.

I arrived at the hotel about 15 minutes from the airport. Not so far. Their pick-up service was quick and good. The driver said that the hotel was about opened few days before and another Swiss-Bell will be launched very soon. What? Another hotel from the same group in a city? Continue reading →

Road to Berau

picture of berau mosqueBerau masih menikmati manisnya kekayaan alam yang melimpah. Kekayaan alam seperti batubara menjadi andalan ekspor kabupaten yang penduduknya sekitar 164 ribu jiwa tersebut.  Kekayaan alam lain seperti hasil hutan dan produk pertanian selayaknya juga menjadi perhatian, supaya pertumbuhan kota terus berkesinambungan.  Termasuk potensi wisata alam seperti Pulau Derawan yang sudah terkenal.

Yang menarik perhatianku di kota ini salah satunya adalah Masjid Baitul Hikmah yang berdiri kokoh di pusat kota dengan warna hijau yang sangat mencolok. Barangkali baru dicat ulang, sehingga terlihat masih bersih. Tapi kesan kokoh dengan tembok yang tebal sukar dihilangkan.  Beberapa foto masjid ini ada di blog foto adventure Pics of  Traveller.
