KATUK (Sauropus androgynus) not only grow in Borneo. Farmers in Bogor of West Java, Indonesia cultivate this staple vegetable for years. I posted a picture of katuk cultivated in Ciampea last year. Last week, I found farmers plant katuk under guava tree in Nanggung, a subdistrict of Bogor.

According to ECHO, Katuk is native to the lowland rain forest understory and prefers a hot, humid climate. Katuk can grow both in shade or full sun, and even tolerates occasional flooding and acidic soils. In ideal conditions, katuk can grow up to 1.5m per month.
